ASK’s Condemnation and Protest about Female Journalist Harassed

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses serious condemnation and strong protest against the harassment of a female journalist from ABC Radio.

According to the newspapers, on July 30, 2011 one Sakku, proprietor of Mohammadi Enterprise, situated at Panthapath area of the capital, drove his motorbike over a female journalist of ABC Radio, while she had been passing through the area. That person first ill-behaved with her and then assaulted her with some local people, as she protested the incident. It is also reported that when the injured journalist went to lodge a complaint regarding the incident, she was primarily advised by Kalabagan Police Station to amicably settle the matter as the said Sakku is involved with the ruling party. Afterwards, it has been informed that Police filed a complaint under Section 323 of the Penal Code as per instruction of the Court. We want to state that such attitude of Police is biased and incapable of providing security to women, which to acts as an inpediment in the way of a women’s freedom of movement.

We hope that the police administration, instead of showing any prejudice to any quarter whatsoever, shall take proper steps to bring the alleged persons under legal proceedings and ensure security of women to make their movement free of any obstruction.
