”Give me a book not a broom” | World Day Against Child Labour 2013

12 June 2013, is the World Day against Child Labour 2013. This year the theme of the day is “no to child labour in domestic work”.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) launched the first World Day Against Child Labour in 2002. From then the day is observed to serve as a catalyst for the growing worldwide movement against child labour.

In Bangladesh, various Organizations are observing the day by different activities. “Shapla Neer”, a citizens’ committee in Japan for overseas support have been working in Bangladesh since 1972 for the socio economic development of the underprivileged people of Bangladesh, organized a rally on today morning to observe the day. As an associate organization, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) also participated in the rally. The theme of the rally is “I am a girl child domestic worker, give me books not broom”.

Moreover, Child Rights Unit of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) is organizing a child-friendly discussion in the drop-in centers on the National Child Labour Elimination Policy. The children will present their thinking on this issue by participating in drawing and cultural programs.
