Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) condemns desecration of ancestral temple and the theft of gold as well silver adornments belongs to Kali and Mahadeva’s idols at Debapriya Bhattacharya’s ancestral home in Tangail’s Elenga Zamindar house.
According to media reports, the miscreants trespassed on Jaykali temple situated outside of the Elenga Zamindar house, ancestral home of Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, by breaking the lock of temple on 30 May 2015 night.
They desecrated Kali and mahadeva’s idols and took away around 23 grams gold necklaces, bindi, nose ring and some silver ornaments adorning the idols. The family members found out this theft next morning and informed local police and upazila parishad chairman.
To be noted that Debapriya Bhattacharya’s grandfather was the Zamindar of Elenga and his father was Justice Debesh Chandra Bhattacharya. Debapriya Bhattacharya’s mother Chitra Bhattacharya was a member of the parliament.
We strongly urge the government to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice immediately.
