In the remembrance of its four deceased founding members namely, Barrister Salma Sobhan, Former Attorney General Aminul Haque, Justice K. M. Sobhan and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Khaleque, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) organised a memorial ceremony on 21 January 2016 and celebrated their contribution and works through reminiscences by co-workers and family members of the deceased at Chayanaut Bhaban, Dhaka.
Distinguished individuals of the society along with the family members of the four deceased bestowed their gratitude by lightening candles and reading out excerpts from the biographies of four departed stalwarts who along with five other members started the organization in 1986.
Dr. Hameeda Hossain , Founder member, ASK stated that at present the works of human rights activists are becoming very risky. Enforced Disappearance, Extra- Judicial Killings are ongoing and there is no trace of 19 people yet who had been missing since 2013 and Government is not saying anything in this regard. She emphasised on more active measures on these issues.
Justice Nizamul Haque Nasim said that these four founder members were path finder and people will find all of them as examples of honesty.
Sultana Kamal, the Executive Director, ASK said that this organisation has achieved trust of people at all levels. She also remembered four founders’ lives, works, achievements, struggles and mentioned about ASK’s work without any fear or favour. Sultana Kamal stressed to remember principles and honest contribution of late founder members of ASK and requested to all staff members to continue their work with devotion and utmost sincerity.
The memorial event started with a song ‘O alor potho jatri, e je ratri, ekhanei themo na…and finally ended with the national anthem.
