Hundreds of people, including students from different institutions, blocked Shahbagh intersection on 29 March 2016, one of the busiest intersections in Dhaka city, demanding arrest of the killers of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a student of Comilla Victoria College.
It has been reported by the Media that 19-years-old Shohagi Jahan Tonu’s body had been found near a culvert in Mainamoti cantonment area and there were signs of sexual assault before the murder. The unconscious body was found in the bordering area of the cantonment by her father and he informed the military police, according to a press release of ISPR.
Tonu, a bright, lively second year student of History Department, Comilla Victoria College, was a member of her college’s theatre group and quite the cultural enthusiast.

So far the law enforcing agencies have not been able to find any clue regarding who could have carried out this horrible crime, snuffing out the life of Tonu.
All over the country people are protesting – students, parents, cultural activists. They are calling for justice for Tonu. People all over the country are showing their outrage, through social media, street protests and human chains, demanding that justice be done. They demanded exemplary punishment of the killers.
