3 Shot to Death by BGB Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK)’s Condemnation

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses grave condemnation over the death of 3 villagers on being shot by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) during a clash between the BGB and the villagers, when the former went to detain the suspected Indian cattle smugglers at Thakurgaon.
According to media reports, on 12 February noon, at Baharampur village, Haripur upazilla, Thakurgaon, when the BGB seized the cattle of a local man suspecting him to be an Indian cattle smuggler, the villagers got agitated and attempted to bring the cattle down from BGB Jeep. Due to this, the latter opened fire on them. As a result, 3 persons, including an adolescent boy, got killed and 14 were wounded. To the contrary, the BGB claimed that they had been forced to open fire in the face of attack by cattle-smugglers’ group.
ASK expresses deep concern over such incident. Such incidences cannot be acceptable in any way. ASK demands immediate and proper investigation of the incident and ensure disciplinary measures against those responsible.
