Press Release

It has recently come to the attention of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) that a non-government organisation has been operating for some time under the name of ‘Ain Shohayota Kendra’, ‘Ain Shohayota Kendra-ASK’ or ‘Ain Shohayota Kendra Foundation’. There have been reports in the media regarding this organisation’s negative or controversial activities. It is extremely regrettable that an organisation carries out such negative or controversial activities in the name of providing legal aid and upholding human rights. We are concerned that the general people as well as the journalists might confuse Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) with the aforementioned organisation, given the similarity between their names. In order to avoid this confusion, we are requesting that this issue is taken into consideration when publishing news reports.
We would like to inform you that Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) was founded in 1986 through the initiative of nine renowned citizens of Bangladesh and since then, ASK has been working to provide legal aid and uphold human rights. It is to be noted that, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) not only provides free legal aid, but also provides short-term shelter and counselling for those seeking our support. Although Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) works all over the country, it does not have any office anywhere except in Dhaka. However, for the convenience of implementing its project activities with the Rohingya community, it has one temporary office in Ukhila Upazila of Cox’s Bazar. All activities of ASK are conducted through its office which is located at 2/16, Block B, Lalmatia, Mohammadpur Police Station, Dhaka.
