Title:
Women & War
Director: Tareque & Catherine Masud
Production: ASK and Audio Vision
Length: 25 minutes
System: PAL
Year: 2000
Price: Tk. 500.00 |
Description:
Bangladesh emerged as a nation state from the war of liberation in 1971.
During this period the Pakistani army and their collaborators perpetrated
genocide against the civilian population, raped women, burnt homes, and
destroyed many places. While many of these stories have been told repeatedly,
the details of the stories of women-in towns and villages, from different
communities- who suffered rape, who fought back, who survived the brutal
violence by the military is now presented in this documentary, perhaps
for the first time.

Title:
In The Name Of Safety
Producer: TVE/ASK
Length: 26 minutes
Language: English
System: PAL
Year: 1999
Price: Tk. 500.00 |
Description:
Women and children survivors of violence, such as rape or trafficking,
or others who may be lost, were frequently kept in “safe”
custody in jails in Bangladesh. One such case of a girl in safe custody
led to her death in custody. Violence is also not uncommon in custodial
institutions. ASK campaigned against this practice and
helped to release many victims from jail. Based on real life stories of
several women and children, who were released from jail custody, this
film uses some real life footage to show conditions in jail. It provides
a strong argument against the practice. Under the Suppression of Violence
against Women and Children Act (2000), women and children are not to be
kept in jail safe custody but in special institutions. ASK's
campaign continues to campaign for women's choice to use safe custody
facilities.

Title: Nari Nirjatan Annya Drishtitay
Length: 18 minutes
Language: Bangla
System: PAL
Year: 1997
Price: Tk. 500.00
Description:
What does a victim do when she is raped? The emotional trauma and the
social stigma attached to rape discourage survivors from seeking justice
or punishment for the crime of rape. The customary practice is to treat
this as a dispute, which can be mediated. In the film the family of the
accused seeks a settlement in which the rapist will marry the victim.
But it argues against such quick remedies that ultimately lead to another
form of injustice. This film is used for training on violence against
women.
