The Human Rights Awareness (HRA) Unit organizes events involving participants from grassroots communities to state institutions such as youth, community leaders, cultural activists, journalists, teachers and students. It uses theatre and socio-cultural activities, such as, debate competitions, publishing wall magazines, etc as awareness raising tools.

The Unit’s activities include:

  • Forming School Theatre Teams, (Biddaloya Nattaya Dol) in local secondary schools in its areas of operation, and provides them with training on human rights, gender issues and theatre skills These groups in turn organize human rights awareness campaigns in their educational institutions through performing drama, organizing debating competitions or publishing wall magazines;
  • Forming groups of local cultural activists (Manabadhikar Nattya Parishads) which it provides with training on human rights, gender issues and theatre skills. These groups then organise community level action theatres on specific local incidents of human rights violations in order to facilitate local action and response.
  • Providing training on human rights, gender, action theatre, and leadership skills for
    • Local theatre groups (MNPs)
    • School students (BNAD members)
    • Teachers supervising the BNAD (Guide Teachers)
  • Organising Study Circles on human rights, gender issues and other subjects of concern for
    • ASK staff members
    • Local theatre groups (Manabadhikar Nattya Parishads)
    • School students (Biddaloya Nattaya Dol members)
  • Facilitating the commemoration of national and international events by local theatre groups (Manabadhikar Nattya Parishads) and school theatre groups (Biddaloya Nattaya Dol members)
  • Organizing theatre festivals
  • Organising Issue Based Drama Productions by local theatre groups (Manabadhikar Nattya Parishads) and school theatre groups (Biddaloya Nattaya Dols)
  • Publishing Wall Magazines by school theatre groups (Biddaloya Nattaya Dol) and organizing Wall Magazine festivals
  • Organizing Debates and other Cultural Competitions by School Theatre Groups (Biddaloya Nattaya Dol members)
