Consultation on UPR Outcomes under the 4th Cycle and HRFB’s Plan of Action for Follow-up

On 30 June 2024, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), the Secretariat of Human Rights Forum Bangladesh (HRFB), supported by Nagorik Uddyog, organized a Consultation on UPR Outcomes under the 4th Cycle and HRFB’s Plan of Action for Follow-up.

Around 25 participants from different human rights organizations participated in this consultation and actively engaged in group work and discussions. Faruq Faisel, the Executive Director of ASK and convener of the forum, welcomed the participants to the event. Zakir Hossain, the Chief Executive of Nagorik Uddyog, shared his insights about attending the UPR sessions over the years. He highlighted how the UPR proceeding started and the scope of the CSOs to lobby with the government on several human rights issues.

Tamanna Hoq Riti, Coordinator, ASK, gave a brief presentation on the 4th UPR outcome document and divided the participants into four groups, focusing on civil and political rights, women’s rights, workers’ rights and marginalized people’s rights. Then, the participants analyzed the thematic recommendations and brought up their comments about what can be done to implement those recommendations. Afterwards, she shared the government responses with the participants. Lastly, the participants adopted a plan of action for HRFB with the aim of continuing the forum’s effort to promote human rights in the country.
