The court acquitted Domestic Worker Khadija Akter Sumi (16) in the case of killing Mahfuzur Rahman, Inspector of Special Branch (Political Section) of the Police and his wife Swapna Rahman. On 6 May 2018, Sunday Judge Md. Al Mamun of Dhaka Children\u2019s Court declared this judgement.<\/p>\n
On 16 August 2013, Dead bodies Mahfuzur Rahman, inspector of Special Branch (SB) of Police, and Shapna Rahman were found at their residence at Malibag in Dhaka. On the following day, Mashiur Rahman, brother of the deceased mahfuzur Rahman filed a muder case in the Paltan Police Station. On the same day, Oishee Rahman, the daughter of the deceased parents, and domestic worker Khadija Akter Sumi surrendered at the Police Station. Trial of Khadija Akter proceeded to the Children\u2019s Court as she was under age (11 years).<\/p>\n
ASK provided legal assistance to Khadija, as Khadija was under age and her parents were poor. \u00a0On 20 May 2014, ASK lawyer Abdur Rashid moved for Khadiza\u2019s bail in the court and the court granted bail for Khadiza. Since then Khadija was in ASK shelter home.\u00a0 ASK continued its legal support throughout the court proceedings and appeared in different court hearings.<\/p>\n
Finally, on 6 May 2018, the Judge of Children\u2019s Court of Dhaka AL Mamun declared this judgement of acquitting Khadija. During her stay at ASK shelter home, Khadija took training on Batik-Butique, parlour work. She also participated in training on family laws.<\/p>\n
This is to be mentioned that on 12 November 2015, the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Dhaka gave death sentence to Oishee and two years’ rigorous imprisonment to her friend Mizanur Rahman Roni.
