Stand up, speak out and take action to prevent rape and any forms of gender-based violence \u2013 this is the message which echoed through all the speeches and performances in the presence of thousands of people at Dhanmondi Rabindra Sarabor on 3 December while observing the 16 days of activism with this years\u2019 theme \u2018Orange the world: Generation Equality Stands against Rape.\u2019\u00a0This event was jointly organized by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and its partners – Department of Women Affairs, ActionAid Bangladesh, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) and CARE Bangladesh and donors Canadian Embassy and Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.<\/span><\/p>\n\r\n\t

    While talking about ensuring justice for the Rape victims, Sheepa Hafiza, Executive Director, ASK said that 98% rape cases get dismissed just because of the lack of evidence. Victims often don\u2019t know how to deal with such situations and don\u2019t get enough help from the service providers. She also added that we need to redefine the word \u2018Rape\u2019 and reform the existing rape law.<\/p>\n

    During the event Dr Asa Torkelsson, Representative, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) urged to work towards a world where women and girls can live with freedom and equality, counter the misogyny and the underlying inequities that lead to a culture of impunity for perpetrators.<\/p>\n

    Emphasizing on the continuous effort of bringing change; HE Harry Verweij, Ambassador, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands said that the elimination of violence against women requires continuous attention and action and this is an important priority for the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
