On 05 December 2019, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) arranged a ‘Human Rights Activists’ Conference 2019′ at the Liberation War Museum, Dhaka.<\/p>\n

In this conference, human rights actors from 21 different districts, including Dhaka, participated.<\/p>\n

The Conference was inaugurated with the National Anthem and a welcome speech by Sheepa Hafiza, Executive Director, ASK. After the performance of few cultural song paying due respect to the liberation war, Sayema Khatun, Associate Professor, Jahangirnagar University, presented a Key note Paper on ‘Courage is the way: Rape and Patriarchy in Bangladesh’. In the paper, she highlighted how the rape culture is showcased in this patriarchal society in Bangladesh. Comments and remarks on her papers were provided by Dr Hameeda Hossain, Founding Member, ASK and Sheepa Hafiza.<\/p>\n\r\n\t

    Following the paper presentation, a Panel Discussion on Response to Sexual Violence was held. During this discussion, Eiko Narita, Deputy Country Representative, UNFPA, highlighted the issue ‘Dimension and aspects of VAW in Bangladesh: Reflection of UNFPA and the role in future programming’. Besides, Asha Mehreen Amin, Sr Deputy Editor, Editorial and Opinion, The Daily Star, highlighted the issue on ‘Stand against Rape: the Role of Media\u2019 and Dr Hameeda Hossain on \u2018\u2019Domestic and Migrant Workers are the Victim of Rape: Way to address the Situation.<\/p>\n

    There were open discussions on issues related to measures adopted by human rights activists to better protect human rights and prevent violence against women, the challenges they face during their activities, etc.<\/p>\n

    A Journalist Fellowship Programme was adopted by ASTHA Project of ASK, where journalist fellows who received a two days training and developed rich content and media reports on gender based violence. In this Conference, they were provided with Certificates on 05 December 2019.<\/p>\n

    The Human Rights Actors reviewed their year-long involvement in the promotion and protection of human rights, and also shared their achievements and challenges.
