On 22\u00a0<\/sup>December 2019, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) organised a consultation with relevant\u00a0<\/strong>stakeholders on the draft \u2018Shastho Seba Bastobayon Ain\u2019<\/strong> at CIRDAP auditorium. It has become a growing concern that every day a number of patients are becoming victims of medical negligence. Further, a lack of comprehensive law, relating to medical malpractice which can easily enforce the rights of the patient, does not help the crisis. According to the documentation of ASK, it can be seen that at least 1021 cases of medical negligence were published in different daily newspapers from June 1995\u2013February 2016 and more than 500 people died across the country, due to medical mishaps between October, 2008 and February, 2016. Hence, ASK urges the government for the adoption of a legal framework for better monitoring and regulation of the sector and to ensure the rights to health care of the general public.<\/p>\n\r\n\t

    Barrister Taposh Kanti Bal who assisted ASK to draft the law. He presented contents of the draft law in consultation. The panel began through discussing several cases where severe medical negligence occurred in Bangladesh and hence the need for a law to address these issues. The participants in the discussion consisted of lawyers, human rights activists, civil society representatives and furthermore.<\/p>\n

    The panel of individuals leading this discussion were the following: Nina Goswami Senior Deputy Director, ASK, Priyanka Bose, Lecturer, Department of Law, University of Dhaka, Ahmed Faijul Kabir, Senior Coordinator, ASK, Barrister Abdul Halim, and others.
