Children to hold an awareness event for local representatives and community leaders.\u00a0 The audience was filled with the domestic workers who benefit from the services OWDEB provide.<\/p>\n<p>ASK\u00a0 have been raising awareness on domestic workers rights issue and the draft law regarding\u00a0 Domestic Workers Safety and Protection ACT in Satkira, Kurigram, Habiganj in Sylhet and Chittagong. This has been creating significant regional pressure on the Government ministry to take action.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers at the event were various stakeholders who showed support for the initiatives taken by ASK, Save the Children and OWDEB.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC01558.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1657\" alt=\"DSC01558\" src=\"http:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/DSC01558-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a> <strong>Nishat Afroze<\/strong> from<strong> Save the Children<\/strong> spoke about the programme they have been undertaking with OWDEB named\u00a0 &#8221;Education for Youth Empowerment&#8221; (EYE) programme. Under this project\u00a0 they are working with approximately 180,000 children each year and have been engaged with city corporations, private companies, NGO&#8217;s and ministries to raise awareness on child labour. They are trying to enable children with access to technical vocational skills and empowerment through education.<\/p>\n<p>In the presentation she spoke about how it was challenging to convince parents to give importance to\u00a0education for children while they were obliged to send them to the city for an income due to financial constraints.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/DSC01556.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1319\" alt=\"DSC01556\" src=\"http:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/DSC01556-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Shymoli Majumder,<\/strong> the <strong>Chief Executive of OWDEB<\/strong>, highlighted how their organisation have been raising awareness among 20,000 children from formal schools so that they can teach their parents and vouch for the rights of the domestic workers. She shared the vision OWDEB have for the future where children do not have to work as domestic helps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gita Chakraborty,<\/strong> a Senior Deputy Director of ASK Child Rights Unit presented the Draft Law of the Domestic Workers Registration and Protection.
