Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses deep concern over the recent incident of violence in Khagrachhari district, which led to the death of three individuals, injuries to several others, and arson attacks on homes and business establishments of ordinary people. At the same time, ASK calls for a judicial inquiry so that evidence-based actions can be taken against all those responsible and the safety of the survivor and her family can be ensured.<\/p>\n

According to media reports, widespread anger and protests erupted following the rape of a Marma schoolgirl. In pursuit of justice, local youths had been carrying out demonstrations, blockades, and strikes over the past few days. However, during these protests, tensions escalated, and measures taken to control the situation turned more violent, ultimately resulting in deadly clashes.<\/p>\n

ASK believes that if any form of excessive use of force occurred during this incident, the government must immediately investigate the matter and take appropriate measures. We also observe that tensions are frequently flaring up in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, causing harm to lives and property. It appears that the recurrence of such incidents is partly due to the absence of proper investigation into past incidents and failure to address the underlying causes.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, ASK emphasizes that Bangladesh is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural country. This diversity is our strength\u2014not a source of division. Establishing peace in the Hill Tracts is not only crucial for the indigenous communities but also intrinsically linked to national unity and the country\u2019s image. Violence, intimidation, and provocation are never solutions; they only breed mistrust and instability, obstructing the overall progress of the state. We must remember that citizens\u2019 rights are equal for all. Any injustice, discrimination, or threat to the safety of one community ultimately weakens the state itself.<\/p>\n

ASK urges the government to immediately form a judicial inquiry commission to identify the true causes of the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable. Justice for the survivor of the rape case must be ensured, while the families of those killed and injured should be provided with adequate compensation and proper rehabilitation. It is the responsibility of the state to safeguard the lives, property, and dignity of its citizens. Failure to uphold this responsibility will inevitably affect society as a whole.<\/p>\n
