[From Left] Khushi Kabir, Sultana Kamal, Sara Hossain, Ilera Dewan and Hana Shams Ahmed<\/p><\/div>Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) strongly condemns the incident of attack on the members of International Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission (CHT).<\/p>\n

On 5 July 2014<\/strong>, the vehicle carrying the members of CHT Commission was attacked by some miscreants just after they left Rangamati Prajatan Motel. Human rights activist Ilira Dewan, CHT Commission member Iftekharuzzaman and operation-in-charge of Rangamati Kotowali Police Station Imtiaz Sohel were injured due to the attack. According to different media reports, the second day of blockade, called by six organizations of Bengali settlers continued on 5 July 2014 in Rangamati and those organisations protesting the Commission\u2019s visit were linked to this incident. ASK is expressing grave concern as this attack occurred in presence of the police.<\/p>\n

ASK strongly urges the government to take immediate action to strengthen safety and security of the human rights defenders and take legal action against the perpetrators through proper investigation.<\/p>\n
