ASK expresses grave concern and condemns the persecution and forced eviction of 14 Hindu families at Chandantala village of Taltoli upazila in Barguna district.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to media reports, fourteen families of Chandantala village have been evicted from their homesteads on 12 March 2015 .We got to know that the occurrence of attack and intimidation on those families continued until they left their own homesteads. Local people alleged that some political influential people are involved in such occurrence.<\/p>\n

We think that such attacks on the minority communities are gross violations of their human rights as well as constitutional rights. Article 28 of the Constitution of Peoples\u2019 Republic of Bangladesh ensures freedom from discrimination against any citizen on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. Due to the repetition of attacks on Hindu minorities this constitutional protection is in question. We did not see any effective step taken by the government in this regard. Moreover, the post election violence and different ways of oppressions and attacks were continued upon different religious minorities in 2013 and 2014 all over the country.<\/p>\n

We want to remind the government that it is their responsibility to ensure safety and security of every citizen in the country. We also urge the government to take immediate and effective steps to ensure safety and security for all religious groups in Bangladesh.<\/strong><\/p>\n
