{"id":4435,"date":"2013-03-30T09:11:52","date_gmt":"2013-03-30T09:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/?p=4435"},"modified":"2015-05-10T09:24:10","modified_gmt":"2015-05-10T09:24:10","slug":"6th-regional-consultation-anni-held-march-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/2013\/03\/30\/6th-regional-consultation-anni-held-march-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"6th Regional Consultation of ANNI held in March 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With an aim to strengthen the role of NGOs in monitoring the independence and effectiveness of NHRIs as well as to develop common strategies among NGOs in promoting cooperation with NHRIs, <b>the Asian NGOs Network on National Human Rights Institutions (ANNI) <\/b>was set up in 2007. This was the outcome of the <i>1st Regional Consultation and Cooperation between NHRIs and NGOs in Asia<\/i>, in Bangkok, Thailand organized by FORUM-ASIA on December 2006.<\/p>\n<p><b>Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) was in the forefront of the advocacy initiatives started in the 90s for the establishment of a national human rights institution in Bangladesh. As a member of ANNI, ASK strengthened its international advocacy for the establishment of independent and effective NHRC since 2006. <\/b>Then ASK started to prepare the yearly assessment report on the establishment and the performance of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Bangladesh since 2008.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Advocacy Initiatives in 2013<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The year 2013 was very important as the NHRC members did finish their first term and a fresh appointment process (ended in reappointment mainly) was done in this year. ASK was involved in different advocacy activities both nationally and internationally. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>The 6th Regional Consultation of the Asian NGO Network on National Human\u00a0\u00a0 Rights\u00a0\u00a0 Institutions (ANNI), held from 27 March to 29 March, 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand hosted by the secretariat Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) with 28 member organizations from 17 countries.<\/p>\n<p><b>Objectives of the 6th Regional Consultation of ANNI<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To assess the implementation of ANNI action points 2012;<\/li>\n<li>To share updates and developments concerning NHRIs in countries as well as the region;<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0To discuss with ANNI members on recent developments in the APF and ICC-\u00a0 NHRIs, which are relevant to their work in their national contexts, and discuss how to broaden and deepen engagement with these institutions;<\/li>\n<li>To develop ANNI strategic plan, decide on framework and timetable for the ANNI\u2019s Annual Report for 2013 (including thematic focus and adoption of ANNI Action Points 2013.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) shared its engagement with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh and collaboration in preparation of NHRI UPR report on the 6th Regional Consultation of the Asian NGO Network on National Human\u00a0\u00a0 Rights\u00a0\u00a0 Institutions (ANNI)<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/anni_regional1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4437\" alt=\"6th Regional Consultation of ANNI\" src=\"http:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/anni_regional1.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/anni_regional1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/anni_regional1-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.askbd.org\/ask\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/anni_regional1-459x300.jpg 459w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At this Consultation, the abovementioned objectives were fulfilled and the decision to publish the finalized version of ANNI Report 2013 in August 2013 with updates and amendments from writers and agreeing that the period of coverage for the report shall be from January 2012 to December 2013, is made.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The ANNI Report is a critical assessment of the performance of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Bangladesh in the protection and promotion of human rights, mainly between January to December of the previous year as well as during the first half of the running year. The country chapter at ANNI Report on the Performance and Establishment of National Human Rights Institutions in Asia, prepared by ASK draws attention to selected issues of concern on independence and effectiveness of the NHRC, Bangladesh as an institution; and examines its full compliance with the international standards for national human rights institutions.
