Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) appreciates the High Court\u2019s suo moto rule asking why the death of two brothers in Madaripur due to crossfire with RAB will not be termed as extrajudicial killing.<\/p>\n
ASK has always protested against this sort of extrajudicial killings and has filed a writ petition in the High Court in this regard. We have seen that the current government is giving various statements regarding the extrajudicial killings taking place in their tenure and we often find them to be self contradictory. Most recently, the Home Minister in her statement asserted that no “crossfire” has taken place during their tenure. We believe that the 112 deaths in custody during the current government\u2019s tenure show that they have embraced the same extrajudicial manner in which their predecessor carried out killings of detainees. The suo moto rule of the High Court proves that extrajudicial killings are indeed a reality in Bangladesh.<\/p>\n
This government has been given a huge mandate by the people on the basis of their declared commitments, one of which is zero tolerance to violence. We, therefore, demand the government take effective steps immediately to end up extrajudicial killings taking place in any form in the custody of the state; and by doing so to keep their promise and uphold human rights.
