ASK expresses deep concern over the refusal to record the case of journalist F.M Masum who was the victim of torture at the hands of some members of the Rapid Action Battalion. We appreciate the Home Minister\u2019s remorse over the incident. But saying sorry is not enough as there is a need for proper investigation and punitive measures should be taken against those who are involved.<\/p>\n
The Home Minister gave her assurance that there will be an inquiry and the guilty will face justice. We have heard such assurances and promises numerous times before. But, the nature of the consequent action taken against the guilty is never made public. Withdrawal of the involved RAB officers can be taken as an immediate action, but the guilty should be identified and punished after proper investigation. We hope the general public will be made informed of the outcome of the probe and actions taken against the convicted.<\/p>\n
We would like to remind the Government that turning a blind eye to the atrocities committed by law enforcement agencies is bound to have disastrous consequences, the unfortunate condition of journalist F.M Masum stands as an evidence to that.
