” The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry Social Welfare on Wednesday finalized the draft report of \u201cChildren Act-2013\u2033 for overall development and welfare of the children, reports BSS.
\nThe report on the children act was finalized at the 32nd meeting of the committee at the Jatiya Sangsad with its chairman M Mozammel Hossain presiding. Committee members AN Mahfuja Khatun Baby Moudud, Syeda Jebunesa Haq, Abdul Momin Talukder, M Abdul Majid Khan, Nurunnobi Chowdhury and Apu Ukil attended the meeting. State Minister for Social Welfare Promod Mankin also attended it on a special invitation of the committee” (Bangladesh Today)<\/a><\/p>\n

The United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (Unicef) and Save the Children have welcomed the passing of the Child Bill 2013 by Bangladesh\u2019s parliament, and said the new law was based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).<\/a><\/em>
\n \u201dUNICEF representative Pascal Villeneuve\u00a0<\/a><\/strong> said that for the first time, the law made a provision for child victims and witnesses cementing legal instruments for their protection, including compensation for victims. <\/a>For children in conflict with the law, the law reinforces the importance of the juvenile justice system meaning that such children, particularly children living on the streets, will no longer be unnecessarily detained. \u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/a><\/em>
\n The Convention for the Rights of Children is the first legally binding international instrument, which spells out the basic human rights that children everywhere have, according to the Unicef website.<\/a><\/em>
\n \u201cThe confirmation that everyone under the age of 18 years is legally a child must stimulate action to ensure that existing laws on child labour and child marriage are strictly adhered to,\u201d said Save the Children Country Director Michael McGrath.<\/strong><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n
