Annual Conference of Community Based Organisations (CBOs)

Gender and Social Justice Unit organised a three days long Annual Conference of CBOs from 10-12 December 2015 at Brac Learning Centre (BLC), Savar, Dhaka. 350 Human Rights Activists from 12 Districts participated on this conference.

A publication titled ‘Prane Prane Mongol Barota’ contributed by CBOs was launched at this Conference. Members from CBOs described their experiences and expressed their feelings about the work they are doing at grassroots level. Dr. Ainun Nahar, Professor, Jahangirnagar University was present there and selected four write up as best.

In the session titled “Importance of Public Prosecutor in Judicial System”, Mr. A. B. M. Khairul Hoque, Chairman, Law Commission and A. K. M Salimullah the solicitor, Law Commission were present and discussed the role of Public Prosecutor in Judicial System and limitation of Public Prosecution as well.

Annual Conference of Community Based Organisations (CBOs)

During this annual conference, Manobadhikar Nari Somaj (MNS) central committee is formed newly with 31 members. Elections of the President, central committee and secretary took place. Newly elected committee expressed their commitments to perform responsibilities according to the constitution. Sultana Kamal, Executive Director, ASK also observed the entire election process and advised to keep unity among committee members to face the adverse situation.

In the Session titled “National Human Rights Commission in Root level: Experience, Achievement and Future plan”. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, the Chair of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) was present at this session and Human Rights Activists from 12 Districts presented their experience at root level activism. Dr. Mizan mentioned that there is a possibility from NHRC to work with local level activists. He also expressed that the Commission will design a work plan incorporating engagement of local level activists in NHRC’s next five years plan. The NHRC Chair also visited the stall of CBOs at the conference.

K. M. Abdus Salam, Director (Joint Secretary) of NGO Affairs Bureau and M. B. Akter, Program Director, Oxfam Bangladesh were the speakers in the Session titled “Human Rights Activity through Community Based Organization- Role of the NGOs and Future Plan” at Conference.
