Mita (13) (pseudonym) was staying with her maternal grandparents at East Sachia Village, Najirpur, Pirojpur. Mita’s father, Bidhan Sutar and her mother Suma Sutar, along with their younger daughter went to India due to poverty. Mita was living with her grandmother Monokhushi Halder (55) and grandfather, Gourav Haldar (70) who admitted her to Dariyabad Ghoskathi Government Primary School.
On her way to school and way back from school, Sudeb Halder used to tease her and sexually harass her. On 15 February 2019, when Mita’s grandparents went to the field for farming, Sudeb entered their house. Mita was sleeping then. While she was asleep, he restrained her to prevent her from shouting and forcefully raped her. He threatened her to not disclose anything to anyone, otherwise, he will kill her. After a while, when Mita’s grandmother noticed some physical changes in Mita, she urged her to tell her what happened. Then Mita disclosed that she was raped. By the time they went to the doctor, the doctor said that Mita is 4 months pregnant already. Mita’s Uncle Shuvankar Halder filed a case against Sudeb, following which Sudeb was arrested. Mita felt insecure living there for which he undertook her along with him at Kolardoynia Union.
In this case, on being requested for assistance, ASK provided emergency support to the survivor.
