The High Court ordered to form a committee with all the concerned to review the existing labour law and have a standard for measuring the amount of compensation.
The bench of Honourable Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice M Mostafizur Rahman issued this rule along with the instruction after the hearing. The committee has been asked to submit a report to the Court within 3 months.
In the given ruling of the Court, it has been asked as to why the Court must not order to take necessary steps to amend the related provisions and schedule of the Labour Law 2006 for ensuring adequate compensation of the labourers who are injured or died at the workplace. The Secretary of Law and Justice Division and the Secretary of Ministry of Labour and Employment have been asked to give answers to the ruling.
Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust, Ain o Salish Kendra, Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association along with Safety and Rights Society have filed the writ stating the compensation provision of Labour law as inadequate.
