High Court’s Rule for Providing Compensation to the Family of a Deceased University Student

A writ has been filed before the High Court demanding a compensation of 10 crore taka to the family of University student Sehreen Mahbub Sadia who died by falling in Chattogram in a drain on 25 November 2021. In this regard, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), Children Charity Foundation and Md. Jahid Uddin Belal filed the writ on 5 December 2021. After the hearing of the writ, the High Court bench consisting of Honourable Justice M. Enayetur Rahim and MD. Mostafizur Rahman issued the ruling, questioning why the compensation must not be given to the family of deceased University student Shehrin Mahbub Sadia due to her death. Moreover, the Court also questioned why the failure to make proper arrangements for ensuring the safety of the pedestrians during development work will not be declared illegal. Furthermore, the Court also directed the Chattogram District Commissioner to submit a report within two months on the actual condition of the area and whether any other accident occurred in that area.
