Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses deep condolences and respect at the passing of renowned human rights activist Faruq Faisel. He was a dedicated, conscious, and visionary figure in Bangladesh’s human rights movement. His contributions to the strengthening of freedom of expression and the development of marginalised communities were widely recognised both nationally and internationally.

From November 2023 to May 2024, Faruq Faisel served as the Executive Director of Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK). One of the significant chapters of his professional career was his tenure as the Bangladesh and Regional Director for Asia at the human rights organisation ARTICLE 19, where he played a vital role in advancing freedom of expression and human rights across the region.

Faruq Faisel was the son of Martyred intellectual and educationist Mohsin Ali Dewan, who was martyred during the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh. Inspired by his father’s ideals and human values, he devoted his life to upholding human rights and justice.

His demise marks an irreparable loss in the field of human rights. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) conveys heartfelt sympathy to his family, colleagues and well-wishers. We pray for the eternal peace of his soul and pay our profound respect to his inspiring life and lifelong dedication to the cause of human rights and justice.

মানবাধিকারকর্মী ফারুখ ফয়সলের মৃত্যুতে আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) এর গভীর শোক ও শ্রদ্ধা

মানবাধিকারকর্মী ফারুখ ফয়সলের মৃত্যুতে আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) গভীর শোক ও শ্রদ্ধা জানাচ্ছে। তিনি ছিলেন বাংলাদেশের মানবাধিকার আন্দোলনের একজন নিবেদিত প্রাণ, সচেতন ও দূরদর্শী ব্যক্তিত্ব। বিশেষত মত প্রকাশের অধিকার এবং প্রান্তিক নাগরিকের উন্নয়ন বিষয়ে তাঁর অবদান দেশীয় ও আন্তর্জাতিক পরিমণ্ডলে সমাদৃত ছিল।

ফারুখ ফয়সল ২০২৩ সালের নভেম্বর থেকে ২০২৪ সালের মে মাস পর্যন্ত আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র(আসক) এর নির্বাহী পরিচালক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। তাঁর কর্মজীবনের উল্লেখযোগ্য অংশের মধ্যে  তিনি  মানবাধিকার সংগঠন আর্টিকেল ১৯ এ বাংলাদেশ ও এশিয়া অঞ্চলের পরিচালক হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন  করেছেন, যেখানে তিনি মতপ্রকাশের স্বাধীনতা ও মানবাধিকারের বিকাশে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রেখেছেন।

ফারুখ ফয়সল ছিলেন মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধে শহীদ বুদ্ধিজীবী শিক্ষাবিদ মোহসীন আলী দেওয়ান এর   সন্তান। পিতার আদর্শ ও মানবিক মূল্যবোধে উদ্বুদ্ধ হয়ে তিনি আজীবন মানবাধিকারের প্রতিষ্ঠা ও ন্যায়বিচারের পক্ষে কাজ করে গেছেন।

তাঁর মৃত্যু মানবাধিকার অঙ্গনে এক অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি। আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) তাঁর পরিবার, সহকর্মী এবং শুভানুধ্যায়ীদের প্রতি গভীর সমবেদনা জানাচ্ছে। আমরা তাঁর আত্মার শান্তি কামনা করছি এবং মানবাধিকারের পথে তাঁর অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ী জীবন ও আদর্শকে শ্রদ্ধাভরে স্মরণ করছি।
