At a recent discussion, the State Minister for Industries, Kamal Ahmed Majumder, gave a statement supporting “crossfire”. Ain o Salish Kendra strongly condemns and protests his statement.
According to the media sources, the State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, said in a discussion held at the auditorium of Monipur High School and College in Rupnagar in the capital on November 13, 2021: “I’m in favor of crossfire. Because, hundreds of thousands of people pass sleepless nights because of criminals and those criminals have no right to live.”
ASK thinks that such a statement by a responsible minister of the government is in fact, contrary to the constitutional right of the people to seek refuge under the law, including deprivation of the fundamental right to life enshrined in the country’s constitution. At the same time, it conflicts with the Bangladesh government’s commitment to the UN human rights system to stop extrajudicial killings. In addition to strongly condemning and protesting such statements, ASK demands the formation of an independent judicial inquiry committee to investigate the killings in the name of “crossfire”.
