Meeting on Protecting Children and Youth from Cybercrime and Online Sexual Exploitation

Under the Speak-Up! project, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) organised an exchange meeting on 16 April 2026 at Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, Dhaka, to raise awareness on protecting children and youth from cybercrime, online fraud and online sexual exploitation. The programme was attended by representatives from the Dhaka District Legal Aid Office, civil society organisations (CSOs), community representatives and members of children’s and youth groups. Senior Assistant Judge and Dhaka District Legal Aid Officer Md. Sayem Khan attended the event as the chief guest. He highlighted the growing involvement of children and adolescents in online gambling, fraud and cybercrime and emphasised that prevention is more important than remedy in addressing these issues. Speakers also discussed the importance of family support, rehabilitation and community-based awareness initiatives to prevent children from engaging in harmful online activities. Participants were informed that free legal advice is available through the National Legal Aid Services toll-free hotline 16430 and at local legal aid offices. The Speak-Up! project is strategically implemented by Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) with support from the European Union and technical assistance from Terre des Hommes Netherlands.
