Adolescent girl killed in BSF firing: ASK expresses concern

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) is expressing grave concern over the tense situation at Kurigram due to the killing of an adolescent girl by the BSF firing.

According to the reports published in the dailies, on 7 January 2011 Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead a Bangladeshi girl as she was trying to return home from India through Anantapur border in Kurigram. More than thousand people of that area came out to demonstrate protesting this incidence. We are observing with great dissatisfaction that the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) is continuing such killing despite their own commitment to refrain themselves from firing to the civilians. The high number of such killing in recent times is a matter of grave concern.

We expect much more responsible behavior from the BSF authority and wish that Bangladesh Government will take serious diplomatic measures to end the border killing immediately.
