Ain o Salish Kendra expresses grave concern and strongly condemns the bomb blasts at Hoseni Dalan area in Old Dhaka early on Saturday (24 October 2015) which killed a person and left more than a hundred as injured.

It has been reported by the media that the explosion occurred around 1:45 am when the Shias were preparing for bringing out a Tazia procession in observance of holy Ashura. The injured victims were sent to different hospitals in the capital. Such an attack on the Shias when they were performing religious rituals late at night is condemnable. This, once again, exposed the dreadful picture of terrorism and sectarian attacks. It is a matter of grave concern that such attacks have been carried out in different areas recently in spite of the presence of law enforcement officials.

Article 28 of Bangladesh Constitution ensures People’s right to remain free from any religious or communal discrimination and the right to practice and preach any religion is enshrined in Article 41(1). But these constitutional safeguards have been thrown into question after these attacks.

We want quick remedy to these inhuman, undemocratic, violent and criminal acts. We strongly urge the government to arrest those involved in the attack during preparation of Tazia procession and to subject them to legal actions as well.
