The Chief Justice orders to ensure the accessibility to Supreme Court

The Chief Justice, Md. Tafajjal Hossain ordered the Registrar to ensure the accessibility of the persons with disabilities to the Supreme Court and to sensitize the staffs about them through training. On 2 February 2010, while discussing with lawyers, human rights activists, the Chief Justice directed this order.

During the discussion with the Chief Justice, the delegates noted that the persons with disabilities are the most marginalized segment of the society. And being politically disenfranchised, they face institutional, informational and attitudinal hindrances to get justice. Among these barriers, limitations to their mobility is the main hindrance, especially while using stairs, foothpath, transportation. In response to a request by the delegates to eliminate these problems from the apex court as a primary step to ensure the rights to get justice of the persons with disabilities, the Chief Justice ordered the Registrar to build ramp and to sensitize the staff through training.

The Executive Director of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) Mohsin Ali, Barrister Sara Hossain, the Director of Human Rights and Legal Services of BRAC Dr. Faustina Pereira, Advocate Ruhul Kuddus Babu, the co-ordinator of National Council of Disabled Women, Firoza Khatun, Advocate Mosharaf Hossain, Advocate Khandokar Shahriar Sakir were in the delegation. Sultana Kamal, the Executive Director of Ain o Salish Kendra( ASK) headed the delegation.
