Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses deep concern and condemns the eviction of Shahidertek basti at Aagargaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar despite the Honourable High Court’s stay order. The eviction drive started on 23 February, Tuesday at 1pm.

Upon hearing of the writ Petition of ASK and BLAST, the High Court Division, comprising Justice Momtazuddin and Justice Naima Haider issued a Stay Order on 4 February 2010 to ensure prior and effective rehabilitation of slum dwellers of Shahidertek basti before taking any step for their eviction from that area.

We believe, continuation of this eviction drive despite the High Court Stay Order, is a clear Contempt of Court. We strongly demand to stop this eviction drive immediately.
