Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses grave concern over the news published in several dailies on 10 March about the death of a detainee in the custody of Ramna Police.

From published news sources, it seems that there has been conflicting opinions among the Police officers and the physicians whether the detainee was ill or already dead when he was brought to the hospital.

We think, while in custody, the responsibility of a detainee’s life and security lies with official in charge of detention. We demand that the Government would take prompt measures to initiate a fair investigation regarding this matter.
