ASK have organised a discussion  for the 14th death anniversary of the poet, freedom fighter and a leading figure head of the women’s movement, Begum Sufia Kamal.

  • Mofidul Hoque, an author, publisher of many biographical works regarding Sufia Kamal. He worked closely with her in many of her social movements.
  • Dr Maleka Begum, former Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (Bangladesh Womens Organisation founded by Sufia Kamal)
  • Dr Fauzia Mohsin, A member of Mahila Parishad who assisted Sufia Kamal when dealing with the aftermath of the 200,000 women who were raped during the liberation war.
  • Syed Manjural Islam, Former Professor of English Literature at Dhaka University, Fiction writer
Begum Sufia Kamal (Bengali: সুফিয়া কামাল; June 20, 1911 – November 20, 1999) was an eminent Bangladeshi feminist, poet, freedom fighter and activist. She was born to an elite Muslim family of Barisal in southern Bangladesh. When she died in 1999, she was buried with full state honors, and was the first woman in Bangladesh to receive this honor.
