With the slogan “Shonghotir Bajuk Joyoddhoni (Let’s cherish the solidarity)”, the three day long theatre festival started on 27 February and ended on 01 March 2014. 21 theatre groups from different parts of the country joined the festival and performed 25 plays. The subjects of the plays covered many social, political and human rights issues like-corruption, violence against women, religious stereotyping, misuse of power, communal violence etc.
A group of young people performed a drama which portrayed the tragic incidents that has affected a large number of garment workers and snatched away normalcy from their daily lives. They were performing in the 8th National Human Rights Theatre Festival, held in Rabindra Sarobar at Dhanmondi, Dhaka. This play titled “Jobanbondi” also portrays the prevailing corruption in the garment sector, tragic tale of the victims and the role of police and media. This was one of the plays of the 25 plays been performed during the festival.
Noted actress Lucky Anam inaugurated the festival. Motahar Akand, General Secretary of National Human Rights Theatre Council and also Senior Deputy Director of ASK, delivered the opening speech. MA Kaiyum, vice president of National Human Rights Theatre Council, presided over the inaugural session. Md. Nur Khan, Director of ASK also attended the occasion.
In the morning of the second day, a rally was organized, starting from Central Shaheed Minar and endingin front of the National Museum, Shahbagh. Eminent Citizens Honoured
The Council honored three eminent and respected persons, Educationalist Professor Sirajul Islam Chawdhury, Language Movement activist Rawshan Ara Bacchu and actor Dr. Inamul Hoque in the final day of the festival. Member of Ain o Salish Kendra, Meghna Guhthakurata honored them with crest.
The festival was organized by the National Human Rights Theatre Council in cooperation with Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).
