In accordance with different media reports, Journalist of Daily Prothom Alo was confined and beaten by doctor at ZH Sikder Women’s Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka on 13 May 2014 while he went to there to collect information for a report. ASK condemns this attack and beating on an on-duty Journalist. ASK also expresses grave concern on the recent violence and clashes between Interns, Doctors and Journalists at different places of the country.
We would like to recall Article-39 of the Constitution of People’s Republic of Bangladesh which guarantees freedom of the Press. We expect that the concerned authority and government will pay sincere attention to deal with these kinds of attack on Journalists and interference on their duties as well. ASK also urges the government to take effective measures to prevent attacks and clashes as well to ensure freedom and security of Press.
