Rohingya Leader Muhibullah Shot Dead: ASK’s Grave Concern and Demand to Ensure Legal Measures against Perpetrators

Muhibullah, chairman of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH), was shot dead by miscreants. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) is deeply saddened and concerned over the incident and calls for speedy and impartial investigation and legal action against those involved.

According to the media reports, , a group of armed miscreants shot dead Muhibullah and escaped at the Lambasia Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar on September 29, 2021 at around 8.30 pm. Muhibullah was rescued and taken to Kutupalong MSF Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead. It has been also reported that a group of active anti-repatriation Rohingyas in Rohingya camps had been threatening to kill Muhibullah for quite a few days. Rohingya camps are generally considered safe and protected areas. ASK fears that the unrestrained movement of armed miscreants in such a protected area and such a killing would create insecurity among other Rohingyas.

Muhibullah was always vocal about the persecution of the Rohingya, their rights and their dignity. He was very vocal against the genocide committed to and outside of Bangladesh and Myanmar and for ensuring the safe repatriation of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. He became the voice of the oppressed Rohingya people in Myanmar. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and the community. At the same time, ASK insists on ensuring a proper investigation and a fair trial for such a heinous act of shooting dead a human rights activist in public.
