Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) formed a Human Chain marking Human Rights Day 2021 on 10 December at Asad Gate in Dhaka. ASK’s partner organisations, Community Based Organisations (CBOs) and Human Rights Defenders Forum (HRDFs) also formed human chain at the same time in 22 working areas of ASK. In the human chain, ASK made an 18-point demand to the government. It has demanded to establish an independent inquiry commission to investigate allegations of human rights violations by Law Enforcement Agencies including extrajudicial killings, custodial torture & death and enforced disappearance in the country. It also urged for repealing the Digital Security Act for ensuring freedom of expression of the people and the amendment of the National Human Rights Commission Act 2009 by introducing a participatory and open process for the appointment of its chairman and members. The human chain further demanded that the existing discriminatory laws should be amended to ensure women’s equality and adequate precautionary measures should be taken to prevent any incident of violence against religious minorities.
