Press Conference on Human Rights Situation 2021

‘We all are covered in a blanket of fear in such a way that we are also working with some restrictions,’ said Md. Nur Khan, the General Secretary of the Executive Committee of ASK during the annual Press Conference on the human rights situation of the country in 2021. The conference on “Human Rights Situation of Bangladesh: ASK’s Observation’ was held on 31 December 2022, at Dhaka Reporters Unity. The Executive Director of ASK, Golam Monowar Kamal and ASK Programme Director, Nina Goswami, among others, were present in the conference. Senior Coordinator, Abu Ahmed Faijul Kabir and Assistant Coordinator, Anirban Saha read out the annual compilations of reports presenting statistics of the human rights violations collected by ASK. Expressing grave concern over the human rights situation in the country, ASK placed 10- point demand on how the overall rights situation could be improved. It urged the government to establish an independent commission to investigate the incidents of extrajudicial killing, enforced disappearance, custodial torture & death and other forms of human rights abuse. It also addressed the continued violence against women and children throughout the year. Besides, it called for empowering the National Human Rights Commission and the Election Commission to play its’ due role.
