Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses deep concern over the recent demand to cancel the recruitment of music teachers in government primary schools. ASK considers this demand not only misleading but also a deliberate attempt to spread division and hostility in society.

The Constitution of Bangladesh guarantees every citizen the right to practice their culture and participate in arts and literature. Music and cultural practices have been inseparable from Bangladesh’s history- whether in the Language Movement, the Liberation War, or other democratic struggles. Music education is therefore not merely a form of entertainment; it is a vital tool for mental development, moral guidance, creativity, and fostering tolerance. Protecting and nurturing this tradition is both a constitutional duty of the state and a prerequisite for social harmony.

In this context, the demand to cancel music teacher recruitment is not only against constitutional rights but also an attempt to undermine our national culture. ASK firmly believes that alongside religious education, children also need cultural education and creative engagement for holistic development. Unfortunately, certain groups are deliberately trying to stigmatize cultural practices by opposing music education, a move that risks polarizing society and weakening the very foundation of national unity and cultural identity.

ASK stresses that while the need for religious teachers may be a subject of legitimate policy discussion, such discussions should be pursued through proper channels. However, using this as an excuse to block cultural education or to replace music teachers with religious teachers is unacceptable. Such efforts not only hinder cultural development but also threaten social harmony and pluralistic values.

সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয় সমূহে সঙ্গীত শিক্ষক নিয়োগের বিজ্ঞপ্তি বাতিলের দাবি আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) এর নজরে এসেছে। এই দাবি ও অবস্থান শুধু বিভ্রান্তিকরই নয়, বরং উদ্দেশ্যপ্রণোদিতভাবে সমাজে বিভেদ ও বিদ্বেষ ছড়ানোর প্রচেষ্টা বলে মনে করে আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক)।

বাংলাদেশের সংবিধান প্রত্যেক নাগরিককে নিজস্ব সংস্কৃতি চর্চা ও শিল্প-সাহিত্যে অংশগ্রহণের অধিকার দিয়েছে। বাংলাদেশ একটি রাজনৈতিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্যের দেশ, যেখানে ভাষা আন্দোলন, মুক্তিযুদ্ধ, সামাজিক আন্দোলন এবং সকল গণতান্ত্রিক সংগ্রামে সঙ্গীত ও শিল্প সংস্কৃতি ছিল অবিচ্ছেদ্য অংশ। তাই সঙ্গীত শিক্ষা শুধু বিনোদনের বিষয় নয়; এটি মানসিক বিকাশ, নৈতিক শিক্ষা, সৃজনশীলতা ও সহনশীলতা বৃদ্ধির অন্যতম মাধ্যম। এই ঐতিহ্যকে রক্ষা ও বিকশিত করা রাষ্ট্রের সাংবিধানিক দায়িত্ব এবং সামাজিক সম্প্রীতির অপরিহার্য শর্ত।

এই প্রেক্ষাপটে সঙ্গীত শিক্ষক নিয়োগ বাতিলের দাবি শুধু সাংবিধানিক অধিকারের পরিপন্থী নয়, বরং আমাদের জাতীয় সংস্কৃতিকে দুর্বল করার অপচেষ্টা। আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) মনে করে শিশুদের সার্বিক মানসিক বিকাশের জন্য ধর্মীয় শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি সাংস্কৃতিক শিক্ষা ও চর্চার প্রয়োজনীয়তা রয়েছে । তবে দুঃখজনকভাবে লক্ষ করা যাচ্ছে, কিছু গোষ্ঠী সঙ্গীত শিক্ষক নিয়োগ বাতিলের দাবিকে সামনে রেখে উদ্দেশ্যপ্রণোদিতভাবে শিল্প-সংস্কৃতিকে বিতর্কিত করার চেষ্টা করছে। এ ধরনের প্রচেষ্টা কেবল অযৌক্তিকই নয়, বরং সমাজকে একপেশে করে তোলার ঝুঁকি তৈরি করছে, যার সুদূরপ্রসারী নেতিবাচক ফলাফল আমাদের জাতীয় ঐক্য ও সংস্কৃতির ভিত্তিকে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত করতে পারে।

আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) দৃঢ়ভাবে মনে করে, বিদ্যালয়ে ধর্মীয় শিক্ষকের প্রয়োজনীয়তা থাকতে পারে, সেটি আলাদা নীতিগত আলোচনার বিষয়ও হতে পারে এবং যথাযথ কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে দাবি উত্থাপন করা যেতে পারে। তবে কোনো অবস্থাতেই সেই দাবিকে অজুহাত করে শিল্প-সংস্কৃতির চর্চা ব্যাহত করা কিংবা সঙ্গীত শিক্ষক নিয়োগ বিজ্ঞপ্তি বাতিল করে ধর্মীয় শিক্ষক নিয়োগের মতো দাবি গ্রহণযোগ্য নয়। এ ধরনের প্রচেষ্টা কেবল সাংস্কৃতিক বিকাশে প্রতিবন্ধকতা সৃষ্টি করে না, বরং সামাজিক সম্প্রীতি ও বহুত্ববাদী চেতনার ওপর আঘাত হানে।
