Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) strongly condemns the brutal harassment of a female dance artist in the Kalibari Road area of Mymensingh and demands the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible.

According to information received from social media sources and local journalists, on 12 November 2025 a group of locally identified miscreants publicly assaulted the female artist, forcibly cut her hair, and smeared her face with black paint, subjecting her to severe humiliation. The survivor informed ASK that prior to this incident, the same group had abducted her child. After she filed a case in connection with that incident, the accused were released on bail and subsequently carried out this vicious attack as an act of retaliation.

Such acts constitute not only a grave assault on the dignity and security of a woman, but also a clear violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Bangladesh. Article 35(5) of the Constitution explicitly prohibits torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. Furthermore, these acts amount to criminal offences under Sections 354 and 509 of the Penal Code, 1860, which address assaults intended to outrage the modesty of a woman and acts intended to insult a woman’s dignity. Publicly subjecting a woman to such brutality is not merely contempt for the law; it is a direct and serious attack on women’s human dignity.

ASK firmly asserts that those involved must be brought to justice through a prompt, impartial, and effective investigation. The State must also ensure the survivor’s safety and provide comprehensive medical, psychosocial, and legal support. In the interest of upholding the rule of law and protecting human rights, ASK calls on the authorities to adopt and enforce a policy of zero tolerance against such heinous acts of violence and humiliation against women.

ময়মনসিংহে নারী নৃত্য শিল্পীকে হেনস্তার ঘটনায় আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) এর তীব্র নিন্দা

ময়মনসিংহের কালীবাড়ি রোড এলাকায় এক নারী শিল্পীর ওপর সংঘটিত বর্বর হেনস্তার ঘটনায় আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) তীব্র নিন্দা প্রকাশ করছে এবং অপরাধীদের দ্রুত আইনের আওতায় আনার দাবি জানাচ্ছে।

সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যম ও স্থানীয় গণমাধ্যম কর্মীদের সূত্রে জানা যায়, গত ১২ নভেম্বর ২০২৫ তারিখে স্থানীয় কয়েকজন চিহ্নিত দুর্বৃত্ত এক নারী নৃত্য শিল্পীকে প্রকাশ্যে মারধর করে, তার চুল কেটে দেয় এবং মুখে কালি মেখে হেনস্থা করে। ভুক্তভোগী নারী আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র(আসক) কে জানিয়েছেন, এ ঘটনার আগে তাঁর সন্তানকে অপহরণ করেছিল একই চক্র। পরবর্তীতে তিনি মামলা করলে মামলার আসামিরা জামিনে মুক্তি পেয়ে প্রতিশোধ পরায়ণ হয়ে এই নিষ্ঠুর হামলা ও হেনস্তার ঘটনা ঘটায়।

এ ধরনের ঘটনা কেবল একজন নারীর মর্যাদা ও নিরাপত্তার ওপর আঘাত নয়, বরং এটি বাংলাদেশের সংবিধানে প্রতিশ্রুত মৌলিক অধিকারের স্পষ্ট লঙ্ঘন। সংবিধানের ৩৫(৫) অনুচ্ছেদে নির্যাতন বা অমানবিক আচরণ নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়েছে। একই সঙ্গে এ ঘটনায় বাংলাদেশ দণ্ডবিধি, ১৮৬০-এর ধারা ৩৫৪ ও ৫০৯ ,যা নারীর মর্যাদা ক্ষুণ্ণ ও শ্লীলতাহানির অপরাধ হিসেবে সংজ্ঞায়িত করেছে। জনসম্মুখে একজন নারীর ওপর এমন নিষ্ঠুর নির্যাতন শুধুমাত্র আইনের অবমাননা নয়, এটি নারীর মর্যাদার প্রতি সরাসরি আঘাত।

আইন ও সালিশ কেন্দ্র (আসক) দৃঢ়ভাবে মনে করে যে, এ ঘটনায় সংশ্লিষ্টদের দ্রুত ও নিরপেক্ষ তদন্তের মাধ্যমে বিচারের মুখোমুখি করতে হবে। একই সঙ্গে ভুক্তভোগী নারীর নিরাপত্তা, চিকিৎসা, মনোসামাজিক ও আইনি সহায়তা রাষ্ট্রীয়ভাবে নিশ্চিত করতে হবে। পাশাপাশি আইনের শাসন প্রতিষ্ঠা ও মানবাধিকার সুরক্ষার স্বার্থে এ ধরনের নৃশংসতার বিরুদ্ধে রাস্ট্রকে শুন্য সহনশীলতা নীতি গ্রহন করতে হবে।
