Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) Expresses Deep Concern, Condemnation and Protest Over the Rape of Two Dance Artists at Sarail, Brahmanbaria

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses its profound outrage, condemnation and protest over the gang rape of two female dancers in the middle of the Titas River in Sarail, Brahmanbaria, after they were invited to perform at a wedding ceremony.

According to published reports, on 11 September 2026, the two female dancers were taken aboard a boat on the pretext of being taken to an event. They were held hostage at gunpoint and subjected to rape for an extended period. Such an incident represents a gross violation of women’s safety and dignity, as well as a serious assault on their professional rights and freedom to work.

Every woman has the fundamental right to pursue her chosen profession with dignity and to work in a safe environment. Working as a dancer or performing at an event in exchange for payment must never expose anyone to the risk of violence or abuse. Every citizen has the right to work safely, and the State bears the responsibility to ensure such safety.

ASK believes that this incident cannot be viewed merely as a heinous crime committed by a few individuals. It also raises serious questions about the effectiveness of state mechanisms to prevent violence against women, law enforcement, and the protection of women’s right to move freely and work in a safe environment.

ASK demands the prompt arrest of all those involved and that they be brought to justice following an impartial and professional investigation. It must be ensured that no perpetrator escapes justice due to any form of influence or pressure. At the same time, the survivors must be provided with security, necessary medical care, psychological support and legal assistance, while their identities and privacy must be protected.

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) believes that women’s safety is not merely a matter of law and order; it is a question of equal rights, dignity and human rights. The State must ensure an environment in which women can pursue their chosen professions without fear or insecurity.
