On 4 November 2018, a couple was abducted from Melandah, Jamalpur District by persons in guise of the Detective Branch of Police. Till now, no information about their whereabouts are known. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses grave concern.

According to media reports, on 4 November 2018, a group of about 35-40 persons, which included women as well, enter the couple’s home and abduct them in the afternoon. At that time, they were using 2 police vans, a white microbus, and 4 CNG auto-rickshaws. When the couple’s family members asked them why they were being picked up, they provided no information. But they did identify themselves as Detective Branch of Police. When the family members contact Malendah Police Station to know whereabouts of the couple, the station informs them that they have no idea about the incident.

ASK expresses grave concern on this incident. At the time of arrest, the wife was 4-months pregnant. We are concerned about the couple’s safety. Even after the completion of a whole week, the police station was unable to identify who the disguised persons were and why they abducted that couple. ASK demands the couple to be found quickly and identify all those persons affiliated with this incident. In case the Detective Branch of Police are affiliated with this incident, ASK demands strict legal actions to be taken against such relevant persons for disrespecting the High Court’s Guidelines on Arrest and Remand.
