ASTHA’s Football Tournaments are inspiring young female players to achieve their dreams

The moment when the women’s cricket team and the female archers of Bangladesh are waving the victory flag in the SA games, girls’ football teams of different schools and colleges of union level of Bogura district are also moving ahead with their dreams to make the country proud in a bigger platform in the future.

As a part of observance of the ‘16 days of Activism to Prevent Violence against Women’ campaign, ASTHA project organized three football tournaments at three different unions – Sonatola, Nandigram and Sadar of its’ project district Boguar. A total of 66 female players from five schools and one college participated in the games.

Playing football is not easy for these young girls of such a remote area as it is treated as ‘men’s game’ but their dreams and love for the game has aspired them to overcome all the social barriers. These emerging football players feel that they need equal opportunity to flourish their potential and such tournaments inspire and help them to enhance their confidence.

The event was organized by the local partner of ASTHA – Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), with the technical support from implementing partner Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) and technical partner United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The project is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
