Mob Beats Youth to Death on Allegations of Hurting Religious Sentiment: ASK’s Strong Condemnation and Demand to Take Legal Steps Against Those Involved

An enraged mob lynched a man after he was accused of defaming the Muslim’s holy book, Quran in a mosque in Burimari land port in Patgram, Lalmonirhat. The mob set his body on fire after beating him to death. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) strongly condemns and protests this barbaric act. ASK demands to identify those involved must be quickly identified and brought to justice by the authorities.

According to news media reports, the incident took place on the evening of 19 October 2020. Such brutal acts committed through using religion as an excuse cannot be tolerated in any way. This can not be how a civilized country looks like. ASK believes that the local administration will identify those involved through independent investigation and take immediate steps to bring them to justice to set an example so that such incidents never happen again. Besides, the authorities must also remain vigilant and take effective steps to ensure that such an unpleasant incident does not take place in the area again.
