ASK’s Deep Condolence about Five Persons Including Filmmaker Tareq Masud and Journalist Mishuk Munir Killed in a Road Accident

ASK expresses deep condolence on death of five persons including renowned filmmaker and director Tareq Masud and the CEO of ATN News, Mishuk Munir, in a road accident.
Distinguished filmmaker and director Tareq Masud, the CEO of ATN News Mishuk Munir, set designer Jamal Hossain, production manager Wasim and the driver Mostafizur Rahman had been killed and Tareq Masud’s wife Catherine Masud, Dhali Al-Mamun, artist and teacher of Fine Arts in Chittagong University, and his wife artist Dilaara Begum Joli had been injured in a road accident at Baliajuri area of Ghior upozila in Manikgonj district on August 13, 2011. This accident has shocked everyone also for the fact that late Tareq Masud pioneered the movement of Liberation War based movie making in Bangladesh and late Mishuk Munir introduced the new era of television journalism in the country.

ASK expresses special concern on the increase of road accidents in the country at an alarming rate. ASK believes that such successive accidents are resulting from the irresponsibility of the concerned authorities, including the policy makers, law enforcing agencies, license issuing authority and the drivers. Along with appropriate measures to prevent road accidents, we demand to the concerned authority to stop issuing unlawful licenses.

We convey our deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased and wish quick recovery of the injured. At the same time, we want to draw the attention of the concerned authorities including the traffic police so that such accident never repeats.
