ASK’S grave concern and condemnation: Killing of blogger and writer Ananta Bijoy Das

Blogger and writer named Ananta Bijoy Das was hacked to death by certain miscreants at Subid Bazar area of Sylhet on 12 May 2015 morning. Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) expresses its grave concern and condemns the killing of blogger Ananta Bijoy Das few days after the brutal assassination of blogger Avijit Roy and Wasekur Rahman.

According to published news in media, blogger Ananta was attacked by some miscreants at Subid Bazar area on 12 May 2015 morning (around 9.30 am) after getting out of his home. He was hacked to death by sharp weapon and died at the spot. Ananta was one of the organisers of gonojagoron moncho in Sylhet and also engaged in writing against sectarianism besides writing in ‘Muktomona’, blog by Avijit Roy. ASK expresses grave concern on the killing of another blogger within a short intervention.

We think that the Government should take efficient and preventive protection measures for ensuring the safety of all bloggers and progressive people in the country. Recurrence of such incidents indicates that the government did not take adequate measures to provide security to those at risk.

We urge the government to take immediate legal measures against the people involved in the killing of Ananta Bijoy Das by identifying and arresting them without delay, and also demand that the Government ensures the security for the people at risk.
