ASK’s concern over the attack on filmmaker Khijir Hayat Khan

Ain o Salish Kendra expresses grave concern over the attack on filmmaker Khijir Hayat Khan.

According to Media reports, a local contractor and his associates attacked Khijir Hayat, his brother and the driver in the capital’s Baridhara area at 11:30pm on 17 January 2016. The three were attacked as Khijir’s driver stained a car that had a sticker generally used on parliamentarians’ cars. After the assault, police admitted and taken victims to the United Hospital for security reasons.

It has been reported that police refused to record a case even after several days have passed since the attack. Also, the victims were said to have been intimidated into reaching a compromise with the attackers.

We have noticed with concern that police in many incidents across the country have been accused of torture and acting in defiance of law, even though law enforcement agencies keep claiming that the law and order situation is completely under control.

As for the attack on Khijir Hayat Khan, the refusal of police to record a case and to coerce the victims into reaching a settlement with the attackers is a matter of grave concern.

We hope that the government and law enforcement agencies will subject them to legal actions after a fair probe in order to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
