ASK Strongly Condemns Chairman of the NHRC for Proposal to Limon Hossain

Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) strongly condemns the proposal given by the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission to Limon Hossain to withdraw the legal proceedings he undertook against the RAB officials.

According to media reports, the Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) called Limon and his family to NHRC office and made this proposal on 23 June, 2013. The proposal was made to withdraw the case filed by Limon’s mother against RAB in the interest of withdrawing the two ongoing legal proceedings initiated by RAB against Limon. It has also been reported that the Commission has sent a letter to the Home Minister on 30 May, 2013 for the withdrawal of two legal proceedings against Limon initiated by RAB.

ASK considers that Limon and his family are facing critical situation due to the brutal and ruthless misconduct of the law enforcing agencies and subsequent legal proceedings against him. We think that the role of the National Human Rights Commission in promotion and protection of Human Rights has seriously been undermined by making such proposal to Limon.

ASK expects that the National Human Rights Commission will play its proper role to ensure justice for Limon and to safeguard his rights.
